Botox® vs. #NEWTOX

Botox® is the standard when it comes to wrinkle treatment. But, we all secretly have the same question in our minds: Is there anything else better than Botox®? Some say #NEWTOX is a strong contender. #NEWTOX, also known as Jeuveau™ is the newest product in the line of wrinkle blockers on the market. But, is it better than Botox®?

What is Botox®?

Botox® has become a household name for being a widely used wrinkle blocker among celebrities. The injectable treatment is composed of a clear gel made with the active ingredient, botulinum toxin. When injected into the muscles of the treated area, the botulinum toxin temporarily freezes the muscle causing the wrinkles in the skin to relax and improve in appearance. Botox® is most used to treat frown lines and deep wrinkles across the forehead and between the brows.

What is #NEWTOX?

Jeuveau™, known popularly around social media and online as #NEWTOX, is the latest and so-called greatest in wrinkle blocking injectable treatments. Does Jeuveau™ Last Longer than Botox®?

In short, no. Remember, both Botox® and #NEWTOX are made from the same active ingredient. Because they are both made using botulinum toxin, their results take effect and last for similar lengths of time. Whether you are treated with Botox® or Jeuveau™, it’s likely you will have to wait 24-48 hours to see results from your treatment. The effects of both Botox® and Jeuveau™ last for about four to six months at a time. We recommend following up with us every four months to maintain your results.

Is Jeuveau™ Better than Botox?

Realistically, the answer to this question is all up to preference. The biggest differences between Botox® and Jeuveau™ are how they are formulated and how they are manufactured in their facilities. The Origins of Botox®

You may not know that Botox® is a neuromodulator derived from the toxin that causes botulism. That’s right. It all started back in the 19^th century when a group of Germans were poisoned after eating contaminated sausages at a dinner party. Dr. Justinus Kerner discovered a toxin, botulinum toxin, in the meat. He named the ailment that killed the Germans “botulism.” Decades later, Dr. Emile Pierre van Ermengem from Belgium determined that the food poisoning was actually caused by the bacteria that we now know as Clostridium botulinum.

In 1989 Botox® was first approved for the treatment of crossed eyes and eyelid twitches. By 2000, the FDA had approved Botox® for the treatment of neck and shoulder spasms. During that time, doctors who were using Botox® for the eyes noticed a side effect – it also seemed to smooth out wrinkles. Botox® was used to ease facial lines and in 2002 the FDA approved Botox® to treat frown lines. During the 21^st century, the FDA has approved Botox® for the treatment of excessive armpit sweating, migraines, chronic pain, and for overactive bladders.

Why I Got Botox® in My 20s and Now 30s

Wrinkles that are caused by muscle movements are called dynamic wrinkles. These are the kind of wrinkles Botox® is used to treat. Botox® is a muscle relaxer that is used to treat wrinkles in the upper part of the face. It is commonly used to treat wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabella area) and around the eyes (crow’s feet).

Botox® is approved for patients 18 years of age and older, but you don’t usually hear about people getting Botox® injections until later in life. They get Botox® injections to treat the lines and wrinkles that naturally occur from aging. But what if you could treat those wrinkles earlier?

Now it’s becoming more and more common to hear about people in their 20s or early 30s getting Botox® injections.

Preventative Botox® Treatments

It’s true. Botox® can be used to treat wrinkles you don’t have yet. Many people decide to take a preventative approach to treating wrinkles with Botox® earlier in life. By starting treatment in your 20s or 30s you can help correct expression related lines before they have the time to become more deeply etched into the skin as wrinkles.

The best time to treat wrinkles is before they happen when they first appear as fine lines on your face. Your cosmetic surgeon or their trained Nurse Practitioner can tell if you need preventative Botox® just by looking at your face.

It’s easier and much more effective to inhibit the progression of lines and wrinkles than to take them away once they have fully formed. When you make facial expressions, those repetitive muscle movements can cause lines to start forming early in life. By starting to treat these areas in your 20s/30s, you can train your face not to make these habitual movements, which will reduce the chance that you will develop permanent wrinkles in that area.

Your Treatment Plan

The results of Botox® are not permanent. You will need follow-up treatments to keep up your results. On average, your Botox® treatment can last up to four to six months. So when you begin Botox® treatments in your 20s/30s, you will continue with them into your 30s to maintain your results. And the more often you get Botox® the less of it you will need to achieve the same result.
