A breast lift is surgery designed to “lift” sagging breasts. It differs from an augmentation in that it does not increase the size or shape of the breasts but instead is intended to give them a more youthful appearance. A woman’s breasts may naturally sag over time due to pregnancy, loss of skin elasticity, or even weight loss. A breast lift can help restore a more youthful appearance, counteracting the effects of aging, gravity and weight loss on breasts which can cause them to begin to droop. You can go from droopy to perky with Dr. Beam and a skillfully performed breast lift.

What are the Benefits of a Breast Lift?

Many women who have had a considerable amount of weight loss and those who have been pregnant often look for ways to restore the youthful look to their breasts. A breast lift—also called a mastopexy–can help these women restore a rounder, more youthful shape to their breasts. If you want to give your breasts a more youthful appearance, a breast lift can be performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation with natural-looking results, so schedule your consultation with Dr. Beam today!

What is the Procedure for a Breast Lift?

Depending on the size and shape you desire for your breasts, there are many options for your breast lift surgery. For a small amount of sagging (ptosis), the incision only needs to be made around the areola. For a more moderate amount of ptosis, the incision is made around the areola as well as down the front of the breast. For the most severe cases of sagging, there will be an incision made around the areola, down the front of the breast, and in the breast crease. Many patients choose to have breast implants in conjunction with a breast lift if they are looking to lift and increase the fullness of their breasts. At your initial consultation, Dr. Beam can discuss all of your options with you to decide which procedure is right for your needs.

How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost?

The cost for breast lift surgery depends on the severity of the sagging of your breasts and other factors, as your cost can also change should you choose to have a breast lift and breast implants. Dr. Beam and his staff will discuss all pricing and financing options with you at your initial consultation.

What is the Recovery After Breast Lift Surgery?

Dr. Beam will give you ample information before your treatment about the recovery process. He will also prescribe an oral pain medication to help deal with the discomfort. Most patients can return to normal activities after about three weeks. Your breasts may feel slightly swollen after your surgery. Wearing a good support bra is needed to help speed healing. You may also need to do the following:

  • Changing bandages from time to time
  • Taking medication to help with discomfort
  • Scheduling a follow-up appointment to check your progress

Breast Lift FAQs

1. How painful is a breast lift?

The breast lift procedure itself will not be painful as it is typically performed under general anesthesia. Following your breast lift, Dr. Beam will likely prescribe you medicine for pain management in addition to providing you with detailed post-operative care instructions that will help keep your discomfort at a minimum. Most patients are able to make an initial recovery within just one to two weeks of surgery.

2. Do you lose a cup size with a breast lift?

No, you will not lose any natural volume when receiving a breast lift. Unlike a breast reduction which removes unwanted breast tissue and fat from the breast, a breast lift simply involves removing excess skin that contributes to a sagging appearance. The actual breast tissue and fat within the breast will remain intact. Patients who find they wear a smaller-sized bra following their breast lift may find they don’t need as much support from their bra anymore.

3. Do breasts sag after a breast lift?

A breast lift’s job is supposed to combat sagging breasts for as long as possible. That being said, the breasts will still succumb to sagging with time due to natural signs of aging. It’s important to remember that a breast lift is not a permanent procedure, rather the results of your breast lift will enhance the overall shape and position of your breasts for several years before the natural aging process takes over.

4. Can I go without a bra after a breast lift?

During your breast lift recovery, you will be asked to wear a sports bra or soft bra without an underwire for up to six weeks. This bra should be worn all day and night with short breaks for showering and changing. Following these six weeks, it is still recommended you wear a bra regularly to maintain the results of your breast lift surgery.

Breast Lift FAQs

On average, our patients are still satisfied with the results of their breast lifts up to 15 years following their surgery. It’s important to note that receiving a neck lift will not prevent further signs of aging from appearing in the future. To maintain the results of your breast lift, we encourage our patients to wear comfortable, supportive bras throughout the day.

The breast lift is not a painful procedure. Following your breast lift, you may experience swelling, tenderness, and bruising around your treated areas. This is normal and side effects typically resolve on their own within a week or two of treatment. Dr. Beam and his expert medical team will provide you with post-operative care instructions to help make your breast lift recovery period as comfortable as possible.

While there is no perfect age to get a neck lift, we most often see patients ages 35 to 45 interested in receiving the procedure. That being said, good candidates for a breast lift are 25 to 65 years old, in good general health, and have realistic expectations of their desired results. If you believe you’re a good candidate for a breast lift, we encourage you to come in for a private consultation with Dr. Beam.

It’s not recommended patients go without a bra following their breast lift procedures. After a breast lift, you will be provided with a surgical bra that will help promote healthy healing and keep your breasts supported throughout your recovery period. After you get the OK from Dr. Beam to stop wearing the surgical bra, it is recommended you wear a comfortable and supportive bra to help maintain the results of your breast lift long-term.

Yes, your breasts still do have the potential to sag following a breast lift. This is because the skin naturally loses elasticity as we age. To avoid excess sagging following your breast lift surgery, we recommend wearing a comfortable and supportive bra throughout the day and leading a healthy lifestyle.
