A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is designed to sculpt the midsection, producing a flatter abdomen and a slimmer waistline. There are two basic types of abdominoplasty: the traditional tummy tuck and the mini tummy tuck. At our Glastonbury cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Beam performs both traditional and mini tummy tuck procedures in our accredited surgical facility equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
-
During a traditional tummy tuck, a horizontal incision is placed just above the pubic area. The length of the incision is determined by the amount of excess skin that must be removed from the area. If a patient has excess skin above the navel, a second incision encircling the navel may be necessary.

A mini tummy tuck, also known as partial abdominoplasty, is a variation on the tummy tuck procedure. Often, a mini tummy tuck is suitable for individuals who have minimal amounts of excess skin on their abdomen and whose problem area lies below the navel. The incision that is made during a mini tummy tuck is typically shorter than that made during a traditional tummy tuck procedure.
Abdominoplasty for Our Patients in the Hartford and New Haven Areas
At our plastic surgery practice in Glastonbury, Dr. Harold Beam offers exceptional abdominoplasty (tummy tuck surgery) to meet a variety of needs. If you have lost a significant amount of weight and are now burdened by excess skin, you may be able to benefit from abdominoplasty. Women who have loose skin or separated muscles due to pregnancy may also be suitable candidates for abdominoplasty. At our practice serving Hartford, New Haven, and all surrounding areas, Dr. Beam tailors the tummy tuck procedure to each individual patient. To address a combination of loose abdominal skin and stubborn fat pockets, patients may also choose to undergo liposuction along with the abdominoplasty procedure.
The Abdominoplasty Procedure
Dr. Beam begins the abdominoplasty procedure by making a horizontal incision just above the pubic area. A second incision is made around the belly button. Dr. Beam then lifts the skin, separating it from the abdominal muscles. This allows him to remove excess fat deposits and to draw loose, separated muscles into their proper place. After removing excess skin, Dr. Beam makes a new hole for the belly button and pulls the skin back down over the abdomen. He finishes by closing the incisions with stitches or sutures and bandaging the area.
>>Back To Top Partial Abdominoplasty
A partial abdominoplasty, or "mini tummy tuck," is a variation on the traditional abdominoplasty procedure. Those who are bothered by the appearance of a protruding abdomen but have minimal amounts of excess skin may benefit from this less invasive procedure, which involves a smaller incision. Dr. Beam performs both types of abdominoplasty at our practice serving individuals in the Hartford and New Haven areas and beyond. After Abdominoplasty Surgery
Patients are given prescription pain medication after their surgery to alleviate any discomfort. Swelling and bruising are also common after surgery. The use of a compression garment, which is given to patients by Dr. Beam, can help reduce these temporary side effects. Although patients should plan to rest for a couple of weeks before returning to work, getting out of bed to move around is usually recommended, as it encourages proper blood circulation.
