Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Dr. Beam offers tummy tuck surgery for patients in the Glastonbury, New Britain, Hartford and surrounding areas of Connecticut.

The tummy tuck is designed to sculpt your midsection giving you a flatter, slimmer waistline. We offer two types of tummy tuck surgery, a traditional tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck. Dr. Beam has extensive experience with both types of abdominoplasty in the Hartford area at our state-of-the-art facility.

This procedure is excellent for patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and are left with excess skin. Also, women who have loose skin or separated muscles due to pregnancy are great candidates. Each tummy tuck is tailored to your personalized needs, which can be discussed at your initial consultation. Many patients also choose to undergo liposuction to address a combination of loose abdominal skin and stubborn fat pockets.

How is a Traditional Tummy Tuck Performed?

Dr. Beam begins the abdominoplasty procedure by making a horizontal incision just above the pubic area and a second incision around the belly button. He then lifts the skin, separating it from the abdominal muscles. This allows him to remove excess fat deposits and to draw loose, separated muscles into their proper place. After removing excess skin, Dr. Beam makes a new hole for the belly button and pulls the skin back down over the abdomen. He finishes by closing the incisions with stitches or sutures and bandaging the area.

What is a Partial Tummy Tuck?

A partial abdominoplasty, or "mini tummy tuck," is a variation on the traditional abdominoplasty procedure. Those who are bothered by the appearance of a protruding abdomen but have minimal amounts of excess skin may benefit from this less invasive procedure, which involves a smaller incision. Dr. Beam performs both types of abdominoplasty at our practice serving individuals in the Hartford and New Haven areas and beyond.

What Can I Expect After Abdominoplasty Surgery?

Most patients experience swelling and bruising after surgery which can be alleviated using pain medication. Dr. Beam will give you a compression garment to help reduce the side effects. Patients should plan to rest for a couple of weeks before returning to work.
