The nose is arguably the most prominent feature on the face. Because of this, the shape or size of the nose can have a huge impact on how an individual feels about his or her appearance. A huge or oddly shaped nose can draw lots of attention and even be a source of low self esteem for an individual. Fortunately, Dr. Beam is experienced in performing rhinoplasty surgery to change the size and shape of the nose and bring balance and harmony to the face. He provides both open and closed rhinoplasty surgery at his practice so that patients can receive the most effective treatment for their particular cosmetic needs and goals. As one of the face’s most distinguishing features, the nose greatly contributes to the way an individual feels about his or her appearance. Rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, is designed to remedy a misshapen or damaged nose and lend a greater sense of balance and harmony to the face. Often, patients choose to combine nose surgery with other facial treatments, such as lip augmentation and cheek or chin implants, to further improve facial harmony and enhance their overall appearance. Dr. Harold Beam also performs rhinoplasty at our Glastonbury practice serving New Haven and Hartford to improve breathing in patients with deviated septums.
Before Rhinoplasty
Dr. Beam meets with each individual considering rhinoplasty for a one-on-one consultation. This allows the doctor to get to know his patient and understand what he or she would like to achieve with nose surgery. In addition to asking questions regarding the patient’s medical history and goals for surgery, Dr. Beam thoroughly examines his or her nasal anatomy and surrounding facial features in order to develop a personalized treatment plan.
>>Back To Top The Rhinoplasty Procedure
Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed at our Glastonbury practice using state-of-the-art equipment and highly sophisticated surgical methods. After the general anesthesia has been administered, Dr. Beam begins nose surgery by making tiny incisions, through which he removes or adds cartilage to reduce the size of the nose or augment its shape. He may also refine the tip or bridge of the nose to match the patient’s desired profile and shape. If the patient suffers breathing problems from a deviated septum, Dr. Beam can straighten the septum to correct the condition. After closing the incisions, he applies a splint to protect the nose and help it maintain its new shape during the healing process. After Rhinoplasty
Patients should take care to protect their noses after rhinoplasty surgery. This includes wearing a nose splint, if applied after surgery, for at least a week or until the doctor recommends its removal. Swelling of the nose and surrounding facial tissue is common after surgery and should subside within a few weeks. Over the next several months after undergoing nose surgery, patients typically notice gradual improvement as the new shape and enhanced functionality of their noses become apparent.
