In addition to the nose, many people can become self-conscious about the size and shape of their ears. Ears that are large or obtrusive can cause much embarrassment and dissatisfaction in people, especially children between ages four and 14, who may be ridiculed for having large ears. Otoplasty, or ear pinning surgery, can improve the appearance of the ears by pinning them back so that they lie flatter against the head.
The Otoplasty Procedure
During otoplasty surgery, an incision is created behind the ear. Next, excess skin and cartilage is removed from behind the ear. The ear is then folded and reshaped so that it lies closer to the head. Finally, the incisions are sutured shut. Otoplasty is a safe and effective process that can be completed in one to two hours.
