Many individuals who have localized fat deposits that fail to respond to diet or exercise are suitable candidates for liposuction. Often performed in conjunction with tummy tuck surgery at our Glastonbury cosmetic surgery practice, liposuction entails the surgical removal of fat deposits in order to produce a slimmer, more contoured body shape. In addition to safe and effective tumescent liposuction, Dr. Beam performs SmartLipo™, an innovative method that offers minimal downtime. SmartLipo™ is especially useful for targeting smaller areas of the body, including the face, neck, arms, and knees.
When it comes to excess weight, sometimes diet and
exercise are just not enough to help you achieve your
weight-loss goals. Stubborn fat in areas such as the
love handles, thighs, abdomen, back, flanks, and knees
can be hard to eliminate even with the strictest diet
routine. Fortunately, Dr.
Harold Beam offers state-of-the-art tumescent liposuction
and SmartLipo™ body contouring treatments at his Hartford
and New Haven area practice to give patients the bodies
they desire. These treatments safely and effectively
eliminate unwanted fat, resulting in a slimmer body
contour that looks natural.
Tumescent Liposuction
Liposuction performed at our practice near Hartford and New Haven can help individuals who are within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight eliminate fat deposits from those troublesome areas of the body to obtain slimmer, firmer body contours. Cosmetic surgeon Harold Beam has extensive training and experience in the tumescent liposuction procedure, which involves injecting a lidocaine- and epinephrine-based solution into treated areas to reduce pain, bruising, swelling, and other unpleasant side effects associated with the traditional liposuction procedure. Because of this, patients are able to benefit from a shorter recovery time and minimal scarring, making tumescent liposuction not only a popular treatment option, but one of the safest and most effective liposuction surgery methods.

Before Tumescent Liposuction
Individuals who are interested in tumescent liposuction at our Hartford- and New Haven- area practice must meet with Dr. Beam for an initial consultation to determine their candidacy for the procedure. The best candidates for tumescent liposuction include those who are 18 years of age or older and are in good health. Liposuction candidates should also be within 25 pounds of their ideal body weight and have stubborn deposits of fat that are resistant to the effects of exercise and diet. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as those who are taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood-thinning medications, should not undergo liposuction surgery. In addition, those who are allergic to lidocaine anesthesia should not undergo the procedure. Dr. Beam will perform a thorough medical history evaluation to determine whether or not the patient is a candidate for the liposuction procedure.
Once a patient is determined to be a good candidate for tumescent liposuction, Dr. Beam will discuss the entire procedure in detail and explain the risks associated with it. He will also discuss the patient's specific needs and goals to make sure that he or she maintains realistic expectations for what the procedure can accomplish. Patients will also have time to discuss any questions or concerns they may have and go over before-and-after photos of previous patients who have undergone tumescent liposuction surgery at our facility. To schedule a consultation for tumescent liposuction surgery at our New Haven- and Hartford-area practice, contact Dr. Harold Beam today.

The Tumescent Liposuction Procedure
During the tumescent liposuction procedure, a solution comprised of epinephrine and lidocaine is injected into the treated area. The solution helps to shrink blood vessels and force unwanted fat to swell and firm up. Next, tiny incisions are made where the fat will be removed. Then, a thin tube called a cannula is used to gently suction out the fat. Because the solution helps the fat to swell, it can be removed easily with minimal bleeding. Up to 10 pounds of fat can be removed during the tumescent liposuction process. Once the fat has been removed, the incisions are closed with a few stitches. The entire tumescent liposuction procedure can be completed in a few hours, resulting in more pleasing body contours. Patients can combine liposuction with abdominoplasty, facelift surgery, breast reduction, or another cosmetic procedure we offer for the ultimate body makeover.
SmartLipo™ Body Sculpting
Dr. Beam is proud to offer SmartLipo™ body sculpting – the laser alternative to conventional liposuction – at his practice serving patients from Hartford, New Haven, and nearby communities. SmartLipo™ treatment uses a medical-grade laser to liquefy unwanted fat deposits beneath the patient's skin. The fat is removed through tiny incisions that are strategically placed so as to produce minimal visible scarring after treatment. Because the laser seals off blood vessels, patients experience significantly less bleeding, swelling, bruising, and other side effects than with regular liposuction surgery. The SmartLipo™ procedure can be used on virtually any area of the body with excess fat. Plus, because SmartLipo™ treatment is a minimally invasive procedure, patients can recover faster than with traditional liposuction.
