Gynecomastia is a condition that affects millions of men and is characterized by the development of excess glandular tissue in the breast area. In adolescent boys, this condition is relatively common and typically resolves by itself. In those for whom the condition remains a more permanent concern, however, gynecomastia can cause the development of body image issues and feelings of low self esteem. For these men, male breast reduction may provide a solution. Technically known as reduction mammaplasty, male breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin to produce a firmer, flatter, more masculine chest contour.
