Just like your eyes, your face can say a lot about who you are and how you feel. The sun, wind, pollution, and other damaging factors in the environment can take a toll on your face, leaving skin looking dull, wrinkled, or older than your true age. However, facelift surgery can dramatically improve the appearance of wrinkles, creases, fat deposits, sagging skin, and other telltale signs of aging. Dr. Harold Beam uses the most advanced facelift techniques to provide patients with the most natural-looking results. Facelift procedures performed by Dr. Beam never appear too tight or pulled, and they result in a younger-looking and more vibrant appearance. As we age, our skin starts to lose its youthful elasticity. Over time, this results in sagging skin and an overall less vibrant appearance. Often, due to the delicate nature of the facial skin, the face is the first place one begins to notice this loss of vitality. When performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, facelift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, can restore and revitalize the face. Individuals who are interested in facial cosmetic surgery but are worried that their skin will end up looking tight or "pulled" can rest assured that Dr. Harold Beam customizes all facelift procedures performed at our Glastonbury practice near Hartford to each patient. The results are therefore always fresh, rejuvenating, and natural-looking.

Before Facelift Surgery
During a private, candid discussion, Dr. Beam helps patients to decide whether facelift surgery can aid them in achieving their aesthetic goals. By examining an individual’s unique bone structure and the condition of his or her skin, Dr. Beam can determine the most suitable course of treatment. He may also recommend further cosmetic procedures such as a neck lift, brow lift, or chin augmentation, all of which are surgeries that can be performed in conjunction with a facelift to totally rejuvenate the face.

The Facelift Procedure
The nature and extent of the results desired determines what methods Dr. Beam uses during the facelift procedure. Typically, Dr. Beam begins the surgery by making an incision behind the hairline at the temples (where it will be least noticeable). After separating the skin from the underlying tissue, he removes or redistributes fat and tightens the muscles to improve the contours of the face. He then repositions the skin to reduce sagging and age lines and removes any excess skin. Finally, he closes the incisions with sutures and carefully bandages the area. After Facelift Surgery
Although some swelling and bruising is common after facelift surgery, these side effects soon subside to reveal the patient’s more vibrant and youthful appearance. During the healing process, any discomfort can be alleviated using prescription pain medication. Keeping one’s head elevated for the first few days is recommended to minimize swelling. Patients should be sure to follow carefully all post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery. This may include avoiding vigorous activities for at least two weeks after the procedure.
