For some women, large, heavy breasts can be a source of physical and emotional pain. They may experience neck, back, and shoulder pain in addition to feelings of self-consciousness. Women with breasts that are disproportionate to the rest of their body may also have trouble finding clothing that fits properly. Often, a procedure known as breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, can alleviate many or all of these problems. By reshaping a woman's breasts to better suit her physique, breast reduction surgery can greatly enhance a woman's quality of life.
Performed by Dr. Beam at our plastic surgery practice, which is convenient to individuals in and around New Haven and Hartford, breast reduction surgery may be an appropriate solution to problems caused by heavy breasts. Many women who experience physical pain or body image issues as a result of having larger breasts may be good candidates for breast reduction surgery. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and those who are planning to breastfeed may wish to postpone the procedure.
Because each woman's breasts are unique, Dr. Beam uses a number of different techniques in order to customize the breast reduction procedure to the unique individual. During the initial breast reduction consultation, Dr. Beam carefully examines the patient to ascertain which techniques are most suitable for her physique.
