Breast Reconstruction

breastreconstructionBreast reconstruction can help women who have undergone a mastectomy feel more comfortable about the way their bodies look and feel. Dr. Beam takes into account factors such as the extent of the mastectomy surgery along with the patient's aesthetic desires and physical needs in order to develop a personalized breast reconstruction plan that will create a natural-looking breast. There are two main types of breast reconstruction surgery:

During a flap reconstruction, the surgeon relocates tissue from an area of the patient's body, such as the back, buttocks, or abdomen, to the chest.

Implant-based reconstruction involves placing a balloon expander beneath the chest muscle and skin in order to create a pocket into which an implant is inserted.
