Breast reconstruction can help women regain their confidence and feel comfortable about their bodies after a mastectomy. Dr. Beam can help create a personalized plan by taking into account the extent of the mastectomy along with your aesthetic desires and physical needs. The main goal for this surgery is to give you natural-looking results so you can feel comfortable in your own skin.

What Are My Options for Breast Reconstruction Surgery?

There are two options available for our breast reconstruction patients.

• Flap Reconstruction: Dr. Beam will relocate the tissue to your chest from an area of your body, such as back, buttocks or abdomen.
• Implant-Based Reconstruction: Dr. Beam will place a balloon expander beneath the chest muscle and skin to create a pocket where the implant can be inserted.

   

  What Can I Expect After Breast Reconstruction Surgery?

  Most patients feel sore for about two weeks after implants, and slightly longer after flap procedures. To help alleviate this discomfort we will recommend a compression bra and oral pain medication. Most patients can return to light work after two weeks, and should avoid heavy lifting for at least four weeks.
