There are various reasons why a woman would be interested in breast augmentation. Some women wish to correct a lack of symmetry, while others are interested in having a shapelier silhouette. Women who plan to undergo a breast lift procedure may also wish to augment their breasts in order to add fullness to breasts that have lost a great deal of volume. Since one woman's reasons for undergoing breast augmentation may be different from the next, and because each woman is a unique individual, Dr. Beam fully customizes the breast augmentation procedure to each patient.
Having a shapely silhouette can make a woman feel feminine and confident about her body. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, breast augmentation can produce a beautiful bust line that is in perfect proportion to a woman's other curves. Women in the Glastonbury, New Haven, and Hartford areas interested in breast augmentation have the extra advantage of convenient access to a top plastic surgeon. Dr. Harold Beam is a skilled surgeon with the medical expertise and highly attuned sense of aesthetics necessary to achieve consistently beautiful results with breast enhancement procedures.
Before Breast Augmentation
Most women who are in good general health and who are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding are suitable candidates for breast augmentation. At our Glastonbury practice serving Hartford, New Haven, and beyond, women interested in breast augmentation may schedule an appointment for a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Beam, during which he will examine the patient and ask questions about her medical history. He will also listen intently as she explains her goals for surgery. Then, Dr. Beam and his patient can discuss her available options and develop a plan to meet her needs.
>>Back To Top The Breast Augmentation Procedure
The details of a breast augmentation procedure depend entirely upon the individual patient. Depending on each woman's anatomy, skin elasticity, and aesthetic goals, Dr. Beam will select one of the following incision locations:
-
Periareolar incisions are made at the outer edge of the areola. All implant types can be used with this incision and placed either above or below the muscle.
-
A transaxillary incision is made in the armpit. The benefit to this incision location is that any resulting scar is hidden in a discrete location.
- Made in the crease beneath the breast, an inframammary incision is one of the most commonly used incisions. It allows the surgeon a great deal of control when placing the implants.
-
After making the incision, Dr. Beam inserts the saline or silicone implant. Then, he carefully adjusts the implant to ensure that both breasts are symmetrical and natural-looking. Finally, he closes the incisions and bandages the area.
>>Back To Top After Breast Augmentation Surgery
The breasts may be sore after breast augmentation surgery, so pain medication is prescribed by Dr. Beam to alleviate any discomfort. Patients should refrain from arm activity for at least a week. It can be two to three weeks before patients are able to resume normal activities, and any heavy lifting should be avoided for four to six weeks.
